The Wright Pet Daycamp & Boarding in Eastlake, OH, is thrilled to invite all current daycare and boarding clients to get a fun Halloween photo. This annual event has quickly become a beloved tradition with our wonderful owners  — a moment to capture festive, lighthearted memories of your dog dressed up in their spookiest, silliest, or most stylish costume.

Designed with the well-being of your pet in mind, this offers more than just photo ops. It’s a celebration of community, seasonal joy, and our commitment to providing safe, enriching experiences for your pets. Whether your dog loves the camera or needs a little encouragement, our staff is trained to make the photo op a calm, enjoyable, and memorable experience.

This guide covers how to register, what to bring, costume safety tips, how to prepare your pet, and other essential details. It also includes answers to frequently asked questions to help make your participation seamless.

What Is the Halloween Pet Photo Event?

Hosted annually at The Wright Pet Daycamp & Boarding’s Eastlake location, the Halloween Pet Photo is a fun, low-stress experience where dogs get dressed up in festive costumes and have their portraits taken by one of our staff members. Our facility is transformed into a seasonal set complete with a pumpkin and a spooky backdrop.

This photo op is open only to current daycare and boarding clients, ensuring that every dog participating is familiar with the environment and that our staff is already attuned to each dog’s temperament and needs. This familiarity creates a more relaxed atmosphere and promotes better photo outcomes.

Clients will receive a high-resolution digital image within a few business days, perfect for social media, holiday cards, or printed keepsakes. We also showcase a few standout costumes on our social channels, offering your pet the chance to be featured and celebrated by our extended pet-loving community.

How to Sign Up for the Event

Reservations are required since spaces are limited, and time slots fill quickly each year. Signing up is simple — just contact our front desk or email our team directly to reserve your pet’s session.

What to Bring for a Successful Photo Day

To ensure your dog or cat has a fun and comfortable experience, we recommend bringing the following items for their photo.

Costume Guidelines

  • Comfortable, well-fitting costume that allows freedom of movement and doesn’t obstruct vision or breathing.
  • Backup costume in case of damage, discomfort, or an unexpected mess.
  • Tested outfit that your dog has worn at least once before the event to help them adjust.

Pet Essentials

  • Favorite toy or treat to capture their attention during the shoot.
  • Grooming touch-up items, such as a brush or pet wipes.

Being prepared helps keep the event moving efficiently and reduces the risk of costume-related stress for your dog or cat.

Tips for a Stress-Free Photo Experience

Our staff is trained in low-stress handling and positive reinforcement, but you can also play a part in making the event a positive memory for your pet.

Know Your Pet’s Threshold

Each dog and cat has different boundaries. Some love attention and cameras, while others prefer to observe from the sidelines. If your dog tends to be shy or anxious in new situations, alert our staff beforehand so we can take extra care to ensure a smooth and calm session.

Use Familiar Commands

Stick with verbal cues your dog or cat knows, such as “sit,” “stay,” and “look.” We’ll also use those commands during the session to encourage cooperation, especially when used in combination with their favorite rewards.

Encourage, Don’t Force

If your dog or cat resists wearing the costume or shows signs of stress (trembling, hiding, excessive panting), let us know. We can work with your pet without a costume or make gentle adjustments so the experience remains positive.

Safe and Fun Costume Ideas for Dogs and Cats

Halloween pet costumes can be fun, creative, and safe when chosen carefully. Make your selection to ensure your pet’s well-being.

Safety Tips

  • Avoid costumes with small, detachable parts that your dog could chew or swallow.
  • Make sure your dog can see, breathe, and move freely.
  • Avoid restrictive materials like rubber bands or tight elastic.
  • Steer clear of glitter, sequins, or toxic adhesives.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), any costume that limits your pet’s ability to move, hear, or communicate should be avoided. Comfort and safety always outweigh complexity.

What Happens After the Event

Once your dog’s photos are taken, they will be delivered to your email inbox within 5 to 7 business days. You will receive a downloadable .jpg image(s), which you are welcome to:

  • Submit to local pet costume contests.
  • Include in pet birthday or Halloween cards.

No, the Halloween Pet Photo Event is for both dogs and cats currently enrolled in daycamp or boarding services at The Wright Pet.

Can my dog or cat participate if they aren’t in costume?

Absolutely. While costumes add a festive touch, they are not required. We want every pet to feel comfortable, and our themed set alone provides plenty of seasonal flair.
