Preparing Your Pet for Their First Daycamp Experience

Bringing your dog to daycare for the first time can be an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience for both of you. At The Wright Pet Daycamp & Boarding in Eastlake, OH, we aim to make this transition smooth for your best friend. Here’s how you can prepare them for their first day.

Getting Comfortable with the Environment

Before the big day, familiarize yourself with our daycare. We recommend you tour our facility to make sure you are comfortable with us and our facility.  Plan a half or full day for your dog so that our trained staff can evaluate him or her’s compatibility with our other daycampers.

Pack the Essentials

Ensure your pet has everything they need for a comfortable day. If your dogs needs a rest during the day, our staff will transfer them to a kennel to give them a break from the action.  Bring their favorite toy, a blanket with a familiar scent, and any necessary medications or special dietary items for their break. Familiar items can provide comfort and security, making the transition easier for your pet.

Start with a Trial Session

If your pet is new to social settings or tends to be anxious, consider starting with a half day or only one of two days a week. This gradual adjustment helps them get used to the new environment and interact with other pets under supervision.

Exercise Before Arrival

A brisk walk or playtime before arriving at daycare can help expend some energy, making your pet calmer and more relaxed. This ensures they’re in a positive state of mind and ready to interact with new friends.

Stay Positive and Calm

Pets are highly attuned to their owner’s emotions. Staying calm, confident, and positive when dropping them off can ease their nerves. A cheerful goodbye and reassurance that you’ll be back soon go a long way.

Communicate Special Needs

Every pet is unique. At The Wright Pet, we understand that. Be sure to communicate any special needs, behaviors, or preferences your pet has prior to booking a daycamp stay so that we can make their day safe, comfortable, and fun.

What to Expect After Their First Day

After their first day, it’s normal for your pet to be tired from all the excitement and playtime. Provide them with plenty of water, a comfortable place to rest, and lots of praise. If you notice any changes in behavior, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and let us know.
